MONSON CEMETERY COMMISSION
FRIDAY, AUGUST 4, 2006
The regular meeting of the Monson Cemetery Commissioners convened at 10:00 a.m. in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. In attendance were Albert T. Wilcox, Robert E. Pease, Paul B. Lovell, William Plante and Gaylin Bingle. David F. Martin III was not present.
Mr. Pease made a motion to accept the meeting minutes of July 7, 2006. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Full-time Laborer – Bill Plante was hired as the new full-time laborer.
2. Ceiling Fan/Dehumidifier – Paul did purchase a dehumidifier for the office and it is making a big difference. Brian Mushenko did stop in and said he could put a ceiling fan in the garage that could just be plugged into an outlet saving the cost of an electrician. Mr. Pease said he would speak with Mr. Mushenko to find out when he would be able to do this as well as installing the angle iron on the roof to stop the snow from sliding off. The Commissioners agreed for Paul to purchase a new air conditioner for the office in a few weeks when they begin to go on sale as the office air conditioner is over twenty years old and not working well.
3. Trees At Bennett Road Cemetery and Fence – Paul said the two trees at Bennett Road are down and he would get prices on the chain link fence once DG Tree finishes up with the stumping.
4. Tires For Pick-up - Paul said he would be purchasing two new tires for the Cemetery dump truck in a few weeks and have them aligned. The transmission still needs to be repaired and Paul will have this done on a day when he can go without the truck for that day.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Tree in Hillside - Paul said there is a tree in Hillside Cemetery’s Section C that should come down. The Commissioners agreed for Paul to get a price for the tree removal.
2. Grant – Paul said he will speak with Joe at Norcross Sanctuary regarding a grant for the repair of the stone wall and fencing at Main Street Cemetery. Ms. Neggers told Paul the town would have to pay prevailing wages on this project. Paul will get a rough estimate from Dan Finnegan and Randy Pascale and anyone else in the area he can find. Paul also wants to speak with Dennis Swierad to make sure the Historical Society doesn’t have a problem with replacing the rod iron fencing along the front of Main Street Cemetery. Paul said he would do more on this during the winter months when everything slows down.
3. Monuments in North Main Street Cemetery – Paul said he has straightened a lot of the monuments in North Main Street using the bags of cement he purchased several weeks ago along with installing approximately nine footings and repairing drains in Hillcrest. The cement is now gone and Paul will purchase more to continue with the straightening of monuments.
4. Bethany Road Cemetery – Paul said an abutter has been planting trees very close to the boundary and possibly even onto the cemetery side. When it gets a little cooler out, Paul will take measurements to see just how close to the boundary the trees are being planted. The abutter also mows ¾ of the area of Bethany Cemetery owned by the town making it inconvenient for Paul as he never knows how many men to take with him to mow and trim there. The abutter usually leaves thirty feet in the cemetery and twenty feet by the wall for Paul to mow.
Mr. Pease made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.
Respectfully Submitted,
Gaylin Bingle
